Introduction:

The Dakar Women's Group (DWG) is an informal group open to all women living in Dakar and speaking a minimum of English. It is a fun group made up of lively, interesting, and friendlywomen. It is run by an executive committee consisting ofvolunteers only. We also provide the opportunity to meet other people; make friends; and share hobbies. We offer resources to find out more about Senegal and Senegalese people. And above all, we raise funds for charity while having a lot of fun!

DWG Aims To:

    1. Raise funds to help women and children in need in Senegal.
    2. Serve as point of contact for it's members (English speaking women in Dakar) through meetings, social events, and activities.
    3. Discover together about Senegal and its people.

We Do This Through:

  1. Fund raising special events
  2. Monthly meetings, our newsletter, and emails
  3. Monthly visits and occasional guest speakers

Our History:

The DWG started back in 1987 as an informal group of women getting together and has progressively grown over the years, developed a structure and traditions. By 2009 we boasted 246 members and gave 12 million in CFA to our charity projects. And these numbers are only rising! We became a lot more visible, inviting for example a Woman Minister to come and speak to us on Women in politics, we visited Parliament and by then decided it might be a good idea for us to follow official channels and file for an Association status.

How is the DWG run?
